Primary fermentation container as its name suggests is needed for fermentation. It should be at least 20 to 30 % bigger so that it can accommodate the foam that builds up during fermentation. A good option is a plastic bucket that has a lid. Make a hole in the lid so that the carbon dioxide produced during the fermentation can escape. It is always advisable to have few buckets of varying capacities to aid the various process of home wine making. Another option is a 7.5 gallons carboy which can hold 5 gallons of must. The carboy is made from glass and also has an opening where a stopper can be inserted for airlock. The airlock allows the carbon dioxide to escape and oxygen to stay in. It also prevents bacteria from entering the must. You also need corks that help to close the bottle once the wine is stored in it. Use corks that are made from the special oak bark as the wines age best in this.
